<Indigo Dyeing Experience> Recommended for families, couples, and groups of friends. Guests will harvest indigo from the fields themselves and combine it with previously harvested indigo to create an indigo dye solution. (Customers will harvest approximately 20% of the required amount.) This experience goes beyond simply dyeing the fabric; it involves harvesting the leaves yourself. The dyed fabric will be returned to you in a bag on the day. Basically, customers are asked to bring their favorite items (some items are also sold on-site). Fabrics that can be dyed are those made of cotton, linen, silk, and wool. 100% of all materials is preferable, but up to about 40% polyester will dye, although the color will be slightly lighter. Items that can be dyed well include towels, scarves, handkerchiefs, thin tote bags, and T-shirts.

This method is called "fresh leaf dyeing," which uses freshly cut leaves to dye the fabric. Indigo dyeing is generally thought of as dyeing the fabric in deep blue, but fresh leaf dyeing uses fewer leaves, so the result is a refreshing blue rather than a deep blue. Many customers are amazed that such a beautiful blue can be produced using indigo dyeing!
