Plan description

Fish caught in the Nada area, south of Awaji Island, are eaten in sushi restaurants in Tokyo. You can board a fishing boat with a veteran fisherman who makes a living from fixed net fishing. He usually landes his catch at 15 locations a day, but on this tour you will visit one of them. It is a valuable experience to learn how fixed net fishing works, the secret of the deliciousness of the fish caught here, and the hardships they endured. You can also purchase the fish caught that day. You can board a fishing boat with the fisherman and observe fixed net fishing up close. When you arrive at the fishing ground where the fixed net is set, the fisherman will pull up the net called a box net with the fish caught in it. He uses a machine halfway, but at the end he pulls up the heavy rope by hand. Normally he does this work at 15 locations a day. After a while, you can hear trivia such as how to distinguish between male and female fish and the species of fish caught that day, the secret of their deliciousness, and the hardships they endured. Apparently, some of the requests are quite unusual, coming from affiliated aquariums who say, "If you catch this fish, please let us know!" After that, the fish return to port and are lifted into the tanks at the landing area. This is hard work, but it's a cool sight to see the fishermen smoothly unloading the catch. [What is a fixed net?]

Nets are set on the ocean floor using the unique know-how accumulated by previous fishermen, such as information on what fish can be caught in each season and where, the habits of the targeted fish, and coastal tides. In contrast to chasing and catching fish with fishing boats, this fishing method involves reading the fish's movements themselves, and is also known as "waiting and fishing." (Please refer to the diagram in the photo section.)

Dress code - Must bring items Please wear rain gear (we recommend wearing rain pants as the inside of the boat will be wet with seawater), boots, gloves, and a cooler box (for those who will purchase fish). If you are taking photos with a handheld camera, we recommend that you attach a strap to it to prevent it from falling. If you get motion sickness, please bring motion sickness medication.

Matters require attention ・Elementary school students must be accompanied by at least one parent (parents must also pay the experience fee)・Junior high school students must be accompanied by a parent (parents must also pay the experience fee)・There are no toilets for customers at Nada Fishing Port, but there is a public toilet nearby (Numashima Kisen Habu Port Boarding Area Waiting Room, Address: 1-10 Nada Habu, Minami Awaji City). ・To ensure safety, if the wind speed during the tour is expected to be 6m or more, we will cancel the tour at our discretion the day before. In addition, if the weather suddenly changes on the day and the wind speed exceeds 6m, the tour may be canceled on the day. In the event of cancellation, we will refund the full amount. ・Please follow the instructions of the fishermen while on board. There are dangerous areas during fishing, so please do not go near them. ・There is a step of about 50 cm from the fishing boat to the land. ・There may be cases where not enough fish are caught on the day. ・We do not accept valuables or other items for luggage. If you bring bags or other items on board, they may get wet, so please take measures to waterproof them, such as putting them in a plastic bag.
