If you visit Nara, the first place you should pray to is Japan's largest bronze statue, the Seated Vairocana Buddha, commonly known as the Great Buddha of Nara. Mount Yoshino is home to shrines and temples with over 100 years of history, including the 14th century Imperial Palace and the 34-meter-tall Zao-do Hall. You may see the mysterious figures of ascetics, or at least hear the sound of a conch shell reverberating through the mountains. Mount Yoshino is home to 30,000 white cherry trees, and from around March each year, the delicate flowers bloom on the branches of the Shimo-senbon, Naka-senbon, Kami-senbon, and Oku-senbon at the foot of the mountain. During the cherry blossom season, the beautiful scenery, also known as "a thousand trees at a glance," spreads across the ground, and tens of thousands of tourists visit the area every day to view the flowers. Mount Yoshino is home to numerous shrines and temples, but the most famous in spring are the flower offering ceremony at Kinpu Zenji Temple and the rice planting festival at Yoshinosuijinja Shrine, which attract hundreds of thousands of tourists every year.
