The wine industry is a specialty of Yamanashi Prefecture. Much of the pumice (grape skin) that is produced during the winemaking process is still discarded. We wanted to turn this waste into new value. Grapes and wine are Yamanashi's proud specialties. However, the pumice skin that remains after squeezing the grapes is unavoidably produced during the winemaking process. By dyeing clothes with this grape skin, we can use and reduce industrial waste and create new value. Pumice, which has been reborn as a dye that is kind to nature and people, is a step toward environmental protection and helps to create a sustainable community. We will utilize local resources and expand our activities that will lead to the future. In the previous experience, there were two colors available: indigo dye and black ink dye, but this new dye is characterized by a gentle, vivid pink color. This was made possible by a request to also handle pink dye, which was popular with women and children! Please try the long-awaited new color at our store!
We also operate a cat rescue cafe. Customers who participate in the dyeing experience can interact with the cats during the experience. We have four rescued cats: Takana Sensei, our mascot cat; Milk Yamaoka, who is only a few months old; Notre Dame Shishamo, who is friendly with everyone; and David Uni, the only white cat. A portion of the sales from these cats will be used for cat rescue activities.
We will also give you an aftercare manual after you take home your dyed clothes. Don't worry, we have detailed information on how to choose, how to dry, etc. We also sell dyes (indigo and ink) for re-dying at our store. You can re-dye it yourself to create a new pattern and color.

Other notifications | Important note: Wine dyed clothes will change color from light blue, purple, or pink. This is due to the natural pigment anthocyanin contained in grapes, the raw material for wine, and changes depending on conditions such as pH and temperature. If you use a neutral detergent when washing at home, it will turn a purplish pink color, and if you use a weak alkaline detergent, it will turn light blue. If you want to keep the pink color, use a weak acid detergent, or after washing, soak the clothes in water mixed with commercially available citric acid and then dry them. |
