Plan description

Experience the Edo period for a moment at Shakujoji Temple, the first stop on the Tokugawa Shogun's journey to Nikko. Learn about the temple's deep ties to the Edo Shogunate and receive a blessing from a monk for a safe journey. The highlight of the tour is an authentic Shogun Lunch, based on the recipe of the lunch eaten by Shogun Tokugawa Yoshimune at Shakujoji Temple in April 1728. You will also have the opportunity to try on and take photos in a rare Takasago-dyed kimono, once beloved by the ladies of the Ooku.

If you arrive by car

For those coming by car (parking available for approximately 15 cars, large buses not allowed), please be aware that there are many one-way streets around Shakujoji Temple. If you enter the address or phone number of Shakujoji Temple, unfortunately you will be directed to a narrow alley where cars cannot pass. If you enter "Kawaguchi City Honcho Nursery School" (2-3-7 Honcho, Kawaguchi City) into your navigation system, you will be conveniently directed to the front of the gate.
