Plan description

Experience the Edo period for a moment at Shakujoji Temple, the first stop on the Tokugawa Shogun's journey to Nikko. Learn about the temple's close ties to the Shogunate and receive a blessing from a Buddhist monk. A highlight of the tour is enjoying an authentic Edo-style bento lunch, the same one that Shogun Tokugawa Yoshimune had at the temple in 1728. You'll also have the opportunity to try on and have your photo taken in a rare Takasago-dyed kimono, once beloved by the ladies of the Ooku.

If you arrive by car

For those coming by car (parking available for approximately 15 cars, large buses not allowed), please be aware that there are many one-way streets around Shakujoji Temple. If you enter the address or phone number of Shakujoji Temple, unfortunately you will be directed to a narrow alley where cars cannot pass. If you enter "Kawaguchi City Honcho Nursery School" (2-3-7 Honcho, Kawaguchi City) into your navigation system, you will be conveniently directed to the front of the gate.
