Plan description

The Daigenta area of Yuzawa Town, where the retreat takes place, is named after its symbol, Mt. Daigenta (1598 meters above sea level). This mountain is also called the Matterhorn of the East because of its shape. At the foot of the mountain is Lake Daigenta, which was formed by damming the Daigenta River, and once prevented the great floods that brought great hardship to the area. The area is now a popular spot for walking and paddle sports. The abundant local water, which seeps into the ground from melting snow, irrigates the people and the land, and nourishes the delicious vegetables and rice grown here. The retreat aims to allow you to experience with all five senses the rich history of this fascinating area, the lives of the people, the beauty of nature, and the importance of "water" as an essential part of human life, to return to your origins and look at what is truly important to you.

Getting used to Daigenta

Explanations of Mt. Daigenta, the Daigenta River, Lake Daigenta (Erosion Control Dam), the origins of Asahihara Village, and historical facts. In this land that has always suffered from water and has always been blessed by water, we will look at the state of our body and mind, which we rarely pay attention to, with the theme of "water". The Daigenta Lake Tourist Trail is only 2 km long. It takes just 20 minutes to walk around the trail, but the seasonal changes of broadleaf trees such as Mizunara, Tochi, Willow, and Beech, along with wildflowers, lakes and mountains, and the small creatures that live there, convey the beauty and richness of Japan, a country with four seasons that is rare in the world. First, while feeling the nature of this land with your whole body, touch and feel the concept of this tour, "water", and try to switch yourself from "ON" to "OFF". Dinner is Japanese cuisine centered on local vegetables that have been blessed by the land. In the evening, you can enjoy a bonfire at your leisure. If it is clear, you can enjoy a quiet night under a starry sky and listening to the murmuring of the Daigenta River.

Soba noodle making and pottery making offer different ways to experience the region.

Fill your favorite bottle with Daigenta water, which you can taste just by twisting the tap, and go for a walk. It also tastes exceptional when made into barley tea. Walk around the lush Daigenta Lake and its surroundings on a full-body Nordic walk. If you get thirsty, be sure to soothe yourself with this water. Along the way, you may find wild vegetables grown here! Your destination is the Daigenta Experience Workshop. Make soba noodles using locally grown buckwheat flour and Daigenta water. Experience the blessings of Daigenta, which move you and satisfy your thirst and hunger. In the afternoon, you can experience pottery at the neighboring Asahi Kiln. Face the soil, immerse yourself in your own world, and turn your heart into a work of art. For dinner, enjoy the wild vegetables you harvested yourself while savoring your gratitude to the land. You are free to make a bonfire, so enjoy the night under the starry sky of Daigenta with other participants and staff.

Solo time at Daigenta surrounded by nature

Refresh your body and mind on the beautiful, lush shores of Lake Daigenta. The scenery may look different from the first day. Is it because of the weather, or a change in your state of mind? Spend some time alone asking yourself these questions. If you want to feel the water directly, you can float in a kayak, if you want to see and feel it, you can stand on the quiet lakeside, or you can feel the power of nature on a walk while enjoying the forest with your whole body. Any style is fine. Reflect on your journey and face yourself.
