"MIHO MUSEUM" is an art museum located in Koka City, Shiga Prefecture. Founded in 1997 by founder Mihoko Koyama, the museum has a collection of Japanese art as well as items from ancient art museums in Egypt, Greece, China, and other countries. Japanese art pieces include the "Jikokuten Standing Statue" and "Jizo Bodhisattva Standing Statue," both of which are Important Cultural Properties. Other notable items include the Egyptian "Seated Hayatogami Statue" and the Greek "Hercules" statue. The museum itself is excellent in both architectural design and scenery, and was designed by IM Pei, known for the glass pyramid at the Louvre. The museum is based on the motif of a paradise, and the approach is that you pass through a road decorated with weeping cherry blossoms, then there is a tunnel and a suspension bridge, and the museum appears at the end of the bridge. The interior of the museum is also decorated with a particular design, making it a spot where you can enjoy the space itself.
MIHO MUSEUM has a restaurant and a cafe. You can enjoy healthy meals at the restaurant. The crops are grown using the Hideaki Natural Farming method, and the condiments used are also carefully selected, including sugar, miso, and soy sauce. Homemade bread, MIHO tofu, and drinks are also available for purchase to take home.
This is one of the many Satobo temples that remain in Sakamoto, which flourished as a temple town of Enryakuji Temple. Satobo temples are retreats for the monks of Enryakuji Temple, and the former Chikurin-in temple is known for the beauty of its 3,300m2 stroll-style garden with Mt. Hachioji as a backdrop. This garden has been designated as a national scenic spot, and the illuminations during the autumn foliage season are a must-see! You can enjoy matcha tea with sweets while looking out at the garden. It is also popular for the spectacular views of green maples in spring and autumn leaves reflected on the black table.
