Plan description

Mount Hoki Daisen is a mountain of mountain worship. Long ago, when it was called Ogami-dake, only selected ascetics could reach the summit once a year on a full moon night and bring back holy water and medicinal herbs. It was also a place for ascetic practices called Misen Zenjo. This is a full moon night climb that allows you to experience and practice the experience of that time in modern times. This season, it will be held on the full moons of July, August, and September. Sunday, July 21st, departure at midnight, scheduled to end at 8:00 to 9:00. Tuesday, August 20th, departure at midnight, scheduled to end at 8:30 to 9:30. Wednesday, September 18th, departure at midnight, scheduled to end at 9:30 to 10:30. It will be canceled in the event of rain or a typhoon. Since it is held on a holiday or during the summer vacation, children in the third grade of elementary school and above can also participate. Please come and have the best experience this summer with your family and children. Of course, adults and individuals are also welcome to participate.

Experience the ancient mountain worship practice that has continued for 1,300 years!

Every year on July 15-16 of the Gregorian calendar, Misen Zenjo (now also called Mohitori Shinji) is held at Ogamiyama Shrine at the foot of Mt. Daisen in Tottori Prefecture and at the summit of Mt. Misen. Originally, it was held on the night of the full moon on June 14-15 of the lunar calendar or July 14-15 of the lunar calendar. So, I would like to try climbing Misen Zenjo (Mohitori Shinji) in the original style (on a full moon night)! Why not try climbing to the summit with gratitude to your deceased ancestors for being alive and prayers to live honestly? Climb as close as possible to the sky and experience the space where your ancestors who have returned to the universe and you, your God, who lives on earth, are connected. It is a meditative moonlight climb where you walk while illuminating your heart, and a sunrise climb where you promise to follow your will and thoughts. Please visit this website to learn more about this ritual, known as the Mohito Shinji, which has a history of over 1,300 years. https://www.daisen.jp/1/10/33/51/2/7/

The tour will be conducted by two guides. Children in 5th and 6th grades, junior and senior high school students can also participate by themselves!

The tour will be conducted by a two-person team consisting of a mountaineering guide who also works at the hut at the summit of Mt. Oyama, and a nature guide who is good at night tours. As it is during the summer vacation period, children in the third grade of elementary school and above can also participate. Please come and experience this summer challenge with your children. In addition, children in the fifth grade of elementary school and above, and junior and senior high school students can participate alone. (A consent form from the parents will be required in advance.) The climb will be at a slow pace in the middle of the night when there are fewer people around, during the cooler hours to avoid heatstroke. A luminous mountain climbing experience on a midsummer night without the worry of heatstroke. Please take advantage of this opportunity.

You can see the full moon sink into the western sky at moonset and the sunrise from the summit!

From the top of the mountain, you can dynamically experience the full moon setting in the western sky and the sun rising in the eastern sky, as well as the rotation of the Earth, and get a sense of the reality that you are living on this planet right now.
