It is an experience to follow the process of making Echizen lacquerware by visiting two workshops. There is no doubt that the spoons that you create with your own hands contain not only attachment but also the magnificent story of Echizen lacquerware.
"Hacoa" is a wooden miscellaneous goods brand born from a company that produces Echizen lacquerware. Hacoa attracts many people with its reliable technology that has been inherited and a variety of highly designed products made using wood materials. There is a directly managed store next to the factory that we will visit this time, and you can see various wooden goods unique to Hacoa, including wooden keyboards that shine with craftsmanship.
Urushirindo was established in 1793 (5th year of Kansei) and has been involved in the lacquer industry for generations. The lacquer is carefully applied one by one using a brush, without using any chemical paints, while adhering to traditional techniques. As a manufacturer in the Echizen lacquerware production area that has been around for 1500 years, we are transmitting the culture of lacquer and bowls while passing on the lacquer manufacturing that has been handed down from our predecessors to the next generation.
After seeing the craftsmen's handiwork, they will polish the wooden spoons themselves. The real pleasure of handcrafting is that depending on how you polish it, the slight difference in shape and texture will come out. It is one of the points that makes me feel the fun of manufacturing. After that, you will experience wiping lacquer on a spoon that has been polished with Hacoa. There are three colors of lacquer available: raw lacquer, black, and red, so you can choose your favorite color. The color of the lacquer changes when it is being applied and when it is finished. You can feel such a change only in this experience, which you can do from wiping lacquer by yourself.
