Enjoy smelt fishing on ice at Mt. Akagi Onuma! Enjoy the ice on the lake called Onuma in the summit area of Mt. Akagi in Maebashi City, Gunma Prefecture, 2 hours from Tokyo. There is also an area within walking distance where you can play in the snow, Akagi Shrine, which is said to grant women's wishes, and Torii Pass, where you can enjoy a spectacular view without having to climb the mountain. You can catch smelt on the ice in the morning, and you can enjoy the spectacular view of hoarfrost in the early morning, so it is recommended to stay the night before and experience it. You can enjoy it with friends, as a couple, or with children. It's below freezing, but the snail-shaped tent keeps you warm inside. Just standing on a frozen lake is an impressive experience! There is also a chance to see ice bubbles until early February!
Enjoy the winter tradition of the completely frozen lake "Onuma" and the experience of fishing for smelt on the ice. Even beginners can rest assured that the instructor will carefully teach you how to fish. From the opening of the ban in mid-January to the beginning of February, the transparency of ice is high and there is a possibility that ice bubbles can be seen! This is a recommended winter experience in Japan where you can definitely take photogenic photos.
