Komatsu Tile's "Iraka no Nami" is a factory tour that boasts one of the largest scales of the GEMBA program, which was an architectural culture nurtured by the climate of Hokuriku. The site of soil preparation and the kiln with a total length of 70 m have a great impact. The sight of thousands of roof tiles burning like dominoes is a sight to behold. In this program, we will visit the last remaining tile shop in this area where the ceramic industry was originally flourishing, including Kutani ware. Why don't you go to know the tile culture that the climate unique to Hokuriku has nurtured? * For foreign nationals: Information on the day will be in Japanese only.
It is interesting just to see how the tile base, which looks like a long bar, is covered with snow at the molding stage and shaped in various ways. In addition to snow prevention, you can learn about the ingenuity of roof tiles as a building material that can respond to the climate unique to Hokuriku throughout the tour.
Komatsu has been active in the ceramic industry since ancient times. Komatsu is said to have prospered as a major producer of roof tiles in the Hokuriku region, but nowadays, demand for roof tiles is gradually declining due to changes in demand for housing styles. Today, only this Komatsu roof tile is produced in the prefecture. We are also taking on new challenges in order to protect the tile culture that supports the architectural style rooted in the region. During the tour, you can learn about the latest situation of such tiles.
The tile culture is gradually disappearing due to changes in lifestyle and building style. However, a house with a tiled roof will be a perfect house for the Japanese climate because of its breathability and strong foundation. seeing is believing. When you actually see it, you will feel like "I want to put a tile on my roof!" ...! This is a recommended tour for those who are planning to build a house.
