Parents and children are also recommended to participate. Let's knead clay instead of childhood! Yawata, Komatsu City, where many kilns specializing in Kutani ware figurines were once lined up. Most of the figurine bases are made of plaster molds, but in order to make the plaster molds, a prototype master who can create the prototype of the figurine is required. It is very difficult to create prototypes that require creativity, and now the number of active prototype masters is very small. The Takamitsu kiln, where the Sano brothers produce figurines, is the third generation of his brother Shinichiro. His younger brother, Mitsuo, who is also a sculptor, is also active as one of the rare prototype masters who continue to produce new works in this area. In the GEMBA program, we will hold a workshop to enjoy making figurines with clay instead of childhood under the active prototype master, Mitsuo Sano, and veteran Shinichiro Sano. * For foreign nationals: Information on the day will be in Japanese only.

Make a Kutani ware figurine by tatara molding and raising

A workshop on "Tatara molding and molding" taught by Mr. Mitsuo Sano, a prototype master who is currently making new works, and Mr. Shinichiro Sano, a veteran of molding. You can experience both making a cute fish-shaped bean dish made from tatara molding technology and making a mold that allows you to experience the moment when a wonderful figurine appears by applying clay to an existing mold.

Tour of a rare figurine workshop in the Kutani production area

Yawata, Komatsu City, has many kilns that make bases specializing in figurines among the Kutani ware production areas. However, there are now several figurine base shops that once lined up many houses. The Sano brothers will guide you through the rare figurine workshop.

A collection of figurines from modern new works to past archives

At the gallery of Sano Ceramics Co., Ltd., which continues to create new works, a collection that traces the trajectory of Kutani figurine production area Yawata, including past kiln works, is exhibited. I will explain from the perspective unique to figurine kilns based on the characteristics of the works of each era.
