This is an experience of the traditional plant dyeing "Kazuno purple root dyeing / Akane dyeing" that still remains in Kazuno City, Akita Prefecture. "Ancient Shikakaku Shine-zome / Akane-zome", which has been handed down from the Nara period 1300 years ago, was once cut off due to the introduction of chemical dyes in the Meiji era, but it was reconstructed in the Taisho era. It was Mr. Bunjiro Kuriyama, who became a Living National Treasure. It was his son Bunichiro Kuriyama who handed it down. In the past, a lot of Japanese purple roots and Akane grew naturally in the fields of Kazuno, and purple root dyeing and madder dyeing using their roots prospered as an industry. Alongside, it developed as one of Japan's three major purples. Kazuno purple root dyeing and Akane dyeing, which are said to be particularly colorful and unique in Japan, were presented to Ise Jingu and the imperial family. The Kuriyama family's purple root dyeing and Akane dyeing, which have not faded even after 90 years and have become deeper and deeper as time goes by, and have been hailed as "the cloth on which the god sits," are the result of dedicated efforts that preserved traditional techniques. In March 2021, the members of the Kazuno Shine Dyeing and Akane Dyeing Study Group finally revived this traditional technique, which had been cut off after the death of Mr. Bunichiro Kuriyama. In this "Kazuno purple root dyeing / Akane dyeing" experience, the members of the study group will carefully teach you how to dye with history. Why don't you enjoy the traditional dyeing experience of Kazuno? ~ Flow of the day ~ 13: 00 Kazuno City Yamamura Development Center or Hachimantai Citizens Center Meeting About Kazuno Shine Dyeing / Akane Dyeing Orientation Squeeze Dyeing Squeeze / Finish 16:00 Completion / Dissolution

-Colors that can only be produced with Kazuno-

Purple root dyeing uses a plant called Murasaki, and Akane dyeing uses the roots of a plant called Akane, and the under-dyed Japanese silk stall is dyed with the traditional squeezing pattern of Kazuno. In the past, elegant Japanese purple grass grew naturally around Yuze in Kazuno City, Akita Prefecture, and the Kazuno Highway was called the Purple Highway. In the land of Kazuno, which is surrounded by Lake Towada and Hachimantai, and overlooking Mt. Aogaki, please experience the graceful colors that can only be produced in Kazuno. The members of the study group will instruct you to choose three types of traditional squeezing patterns so that anyone can easily squeeze them. The arrangement can be decided according to your preference. Why don't you make a wonderful stall just for you, which is unique in the world?
