Iaido is a martial art of handling the Japanese sword, practiced by samurais.
It is an art of controlling your body and sword correctly to sudden attacks of enemies at any time and at any place, while sitting or standing or walking.
「Iai wa saya no uchi ni ari」is used to express an art of striking an opponent by drawing a sword instantly before he draws his sword from the sheath.
In this plan you can watch iaido training held at Muso Jikiden Eishin School, which is considered to be the most
conservative school continuing the traditions of Iaido founders.​ ​
At the beginning you will watch a sword practice of hanshi (master) and then you can practice cutting obi, using a mock sword.
Also, you will experience to hold a real sword and practice swinging it.

Beauty of a Real Sword

The Japanese swords used by hanshi in training are the real swords used by samurais.​ ​

It can be a valuable experience as you can look the sword thoroughly and hold it in your hands.

The sword weight is usually between 800 gr.~1 kg. and when you hold it you may feel a samurai spirit.​ ​
