Enjoy traditional handcrafting experience at blacksmith's.
As we are living in a society where people are more and more focused on digital technology, blacksmith's skills and techniques seem to be disappearing from our lives.
The Tatara Steel Manufacturing & Forging Workshop located on the Shimanto riverside offers knife forging experience.
Using fire and special techniques from steel, we make your favorite things from kitchen knives, cutting knives, paper knives and so on. You can also engrave your wedding anniversary, travel memories, and names. Her husband, Mr. Hayashi, can speak English, so you can learn a wealth of knowledge and sophisticated skills through polite English lectures.
The workshop is located in the mouth indoor village in the middle of the middle basin of the Shimanto River, and after making cutlery, you can relax on the shore of the lake. If you are lucky, you may also meet deer, wild boars, monkeys and other wildlife. Enjoy the unique experience of Japan in the great outdoors.
